I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you still have questions, please call or e-mail me and I would be more than happy to answer your questions personally.

1. Does a doula really help?
Many studies have shown that having a doula present at a birth significantly decreases the amount of medical interventions. The resulting birth experience is more pleasant and memorable.
2. What if I already know I want an epidural?
Even if you have already planned on having an epidural during the birth of your child, you may still want to consider having a doula present. Many hospitals will not administer an epidural until you are dilated to a certain cm. This could take hours and many women like having the emotional and physical support of a doula until then. There is also the possibility that the epidural will not work. This happens in about 3% of all women.
3. What kind of training and experience have you had?
I am a certified doula through DONA International. I have been present at many births. I also have three children of my own. I have read extensively on pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
4. What is your childbirth philosophy?
I believe that God created a woman's body so that she is able to give birth. Therefore, a woman is quite capable of delivering a child without the need for many drugs used today. A natural birth experience can be achieved through relaxation and positional techniques as well as other non-invasive support and procedures. If a person chooses to use the aid of some modern drugs, then I completely support their decision as it is a very personal matter.
5. Are you willing to labor with me at home before the hospital?
Of course! In fact, I encourage mothers to labor at home as long as they feel comfortable.
6. What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A doula is not medically trained to deliver a baby. A doula does not perform clinical duties such as vaginal exams, blood pressure, etc. A doula provides emotional support, physical support, and acts as a liaison between the mother/parents and the doctor/hospital.
7. Are you willing to work with International mothers/parents?
Absolutely! I would love to work with you during your labor and birth. I understand what it is like to live in a foreign country while you are expecting.
